Chance for Growth - Projects

The first school sponsorship for children aged 6-12 years, has already been implemented on Isla Verde (20 km south of Batangas by boat). Since the costs regarding the Filipino education system are very low for us, it is possible to send a child to school for as little as15 euros a month. The 15 euros per month comprise the school fees as well as the costs for exercise books, pencils and for a new school uniform including shoes once every six months. At the beginning of the new school year (June, 2009) the number of sponsors will rise to 15.

Given the fact that some children on Isla Verde have to put up with a daily one to two-hour-walk in order to get to school and back, „chance for growth” will be buying a 200-square-metre property and build a boarding school with separate dormitories for girls and boys. A supervising tutor – employed by „chance for growth” for approx. 15 euros a month- will look after the children and cook for them.

As regards medical assistance „chance for growth” carried out its first mission on Isla Verde in March, 2008. Doctors from „chance for growth” provided free assistance for patients with chronic and acute illnesses in a number of different places. The drugs for this mission were financed through donations and were bought on site and brought to the island by boat. The total price for the treatment per patient was 1.50 euros (total expenses for mission / total number of patients).

Additional medical projects, including dental camps, will be launched in 2009.
